Oakland Raiders vs Arizona Cardinals Live

The Arizona Cardinals will play their second preseason game on Saturday, hosting the Oakland Raiders. It is the first game for Oakland. The Cardinals will have their starters on the field as much as one quarter, so it will be the first look at them in live game action.

As such, there are more players to watch this weekend than just some of the fringe roster players. Who are the players to watch on Saturday?Justin Bethel

Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY SportsBethel has been great in the offseason and in training camp. Coach Bruce Arians has said if he continues, he will have a great season. That starts this weekend against some talented Raiders receivers. Will he be tough in coverage? Will he make plays on the ball? Or will he end up getting beat?

Sure, Manuel has gotten virtually all of the second-team reps, while Cook has been mostly relegated to third-string work. But the exhibition games give both players a chance to separate themselves when they face the actual threat of getting hit.

“That’s a big part of it, how you function when you know that guys can really tee off on you,” Del Rio said. “Being able to absorb a load and get up is a part of it. We don’t want them doing that very often, but that is a part of it, getting back up and getting back in there.”

Backup quarterback is the least important job until it’s the most important, as the Raiders learned last year. The battle between Manuel and Cook could affect other roster spots. In theory, should Cook win the backup job, the Raiders could go with only two active quarterbacks on the roster (and add a third on the practice squad) and have more flexibility elsewhere.

Derek Carr shouldn’t play much in this opener, so Manuel and Cook will get to show what they can do.

Leverage for Donald Penn: What happens if Marshall Newhouse doesn’t exactly acquit himself well at left tackle against the Cardinals? Well, let’s just say Donald Penn might crack a slight smile.

Penn is locked into a holdout that’s expected to last at least through the second exhibition game. It’s about leverage at this point. Penn has been one of the better left tackles in the league since joining the Raiders, yet with a $5.8 million base salary this year he’s not being paid like one. He wants a raise of upward of $5 million and maybe another year tacked on.

The Raiders need him — or you would think they do. But if Newhouse starts looking mighty capable of filling in and Vadal Alexander locks down the right side, the Raiders have less reason to pay Penn extra. He will be watching this game closely on television.

3. Draftee debuts: The first exhibition game is always fun to get a nice first look at a draft class, except, well the Raiders’ top two picks aren’t going to play.

First-round cornerback Gareon Conley is on the physically unable to perform list with what general manager Reggie McKenzie described as shin splints only to have Conley — a player McKenzie ferociously backed as he faced a rape investigation — take the curious and unwise route of tweeting that he didn’t have shin splints. He also seemed to agree with a respondent who blamed the media for the misinformation. It puts a curious stain on his record fresh off avoiding charges for the rape accusation.

Obi Melifonwu, a safety and second-round pick, also won’t play after being mostly a spectator at recent practices because of an undisclosed injury. That makes third-round defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes the primary rookie to watch.

Vanderdoes has had an impressive camp and plays a position where the Raiders desperately need an impact player. While most starters won’t see a ton of playing time, the rookie should get a fair number of snaps. He and fifth-round linebacker Marquel Lee are potential starters for this defense.

“Very explosive, great hands,” Carr said of Vanderdoes. “That kind of player inside with Bruce (Irvin) and Khalil (Mack) rushing the outside, it’s going to be a problem. It really is. I’m really happy that we have him and he didn’t go to another AFC West team and let them add another pass rusher.”

It’s only the first game, but it’s time to see if Vanderdoes can live up to the expectations he has quickly established.

4. Hidden gems: The Raiders have a nice history under McKenzie of finding an undrafted gem or two and have a couple of candidates this year.

K.J. Brent can improve his roster chances starting with Saturday’s exhibition opener. (Anda Chu/Bay Area News Group)

Duke product Breon Borders has been getting a lot of time with the first-team defense as a slot cornerback, helped out by Conley’s absence and Sean Smith’s struggles. Not only does he have a real shot at making the team, it would seem likely at this stage that he does.

Wide receiver K.J. Brent also continues to do nothing but impress in camp and is ready to show what he can do in the exhibition games after catching seven passes for 113 yards last year to earn a spot on the practice squad. In terms of pure receiving talent, Brent’s looked like the fourth-best receiver on the roster behind Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree and Seth Roberts this camp, so his roster shot has legitimacy.

5. Getting out healthy: The last two times the Raiders have played Arizona in the exhibition season, they have suffered a serious injury. Last season, it was Mario Edwards Jr. going down with a first-quarter hip injury that cost him 14 games. Two years ago, in the third game, former right tackle Menelik Watson ruptured his Achilles.

With already more players than they would like dealing with nagging injuries, the Raiders need to avoid anything significant and that’s one reason the front-line players will probably play even less than they normally do.

Dallas Cowboys vs Los Angeles Rams live

The Cowboys’ return to Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for Saturday night’s preseason game provides an opportunity to revisit one of the first.

Signature moments in an NFL quarterback’s career come in January and February, not August. But what Rayne Dakota Prescott did on that field against the Rams one year ago was significant. Not only did he continue to build trust and buy himself time, he offered a tantalizing glimpse of what his rookie season would become.

A star was born.

“I think it was important,” Prescott said. “I think it showed some significance in the fact it was the first game experience they got to see me play with the offense.

“I mean, I had plenty of scrimmages and live reps out here, but the first game experience with the crowd, a huge crowd out there in the Coliseum, it was a pretty good performance and I think it gave them confidence in believing in me and pushing further.”Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) tosses a short pass in the first quarter against the Los Angeles Rams of their first preseason game at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Saturday, August 13, 2016. (Tom Fox/The Dallas Morning News)

This isn’t an overstatement. While Prescott is the same person and athlete he was the evening the NFL officially returned to Los Angeles, the perception of him was much different at that point than it is now.

The franchise hoped Prescott was the quarterback of the future but had no idea. He certainly wasn’t the quarterback of the present. That status belonged to Tony Romo. The only reason Prescott started the preseason opener was that backup quarterback Kellen Moore had gone down to a season-ending injury early in camp.

The fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State showed promise but was unproven. If he performed poorly against the Rams, if the rookie gave any hint that the stage was too big for him, the Cowboys would have intensified the search for a veteran backup.

Prescott put that search on hold by going 10 of 12 for 139 yards with two touchdowns. He followed that up with another strong preseason performance.

And another.

“After Dak did that, he was going to deserve to have every opportunity to have that backup spot,” executive vice president Stephen Jones said. “We were going to be real comfortable with him being No. 2 for us.”

Ask Prescott what was going through his mind before that first game against the Rams, and he says it’s too long ago to recall. Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan quickly came up with a memory.

“I remember his first play was almost on the minus-1 yard line,” Linehan joked. “He looked at it and just smiled and said, ‘I’m ready to go.’ We ended up challenging the touchback and got it back to the 20-yard line.

“But it’s funny to remember. He said, ‘I was ready to go 99.’

“That was a good sign from him.”

Prescott was decisive and accurate. He threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Dez Bryant and a 32-yard scoring pass to Terrance Williams.

Does one play stick out for Prescott from that game? (Tom Fox/The Dallas Morning News)

“I’d say probably the touchdown to Terrance Williams, a little double move to the field and he made a great play on the ball,” Prescott said. “I want to say I got hit as I was throwing it. I was trying to figure out if he caught it or not, and then you hear everybody scream.

“Usually, the touchdowns stick out more than the incompletions.”

This stuck out as well: Both of Prescott’s incompletions were drops by tight end Geoff Swaim.

Prescott sculpted a 24-7 halftime lead and was done for the evening.

“Yeah, he was very impressive,” head coach Jason Garrett said. “He had shown us who he was up to that point, but then you go into a game.

“In that environment, if you remember, it was the first game that the Rams had since they came back, a lot of electricity in the air. He went in and handled himself well. He handled himself like he had handled himself since the first day of rookie minicamp. He was prepared, he was ready, he was confident.

Tennessee Titans vs New York Jets live

Marcus Mariota is expected to start and is eager to show that his surgically repaired right leg is sound and he’s 100 percent healthy when the Tennessee Titans take on the New York Jets in each team’s 2017 preseason opener Saturday (4:30 p.m. PT/7:30 p.m. ET)

You can watch a live stream of the game on NFL gamepass.

Mariota looks to be fully recovered from the broken leg he suffered during Week 16 of the 2016 season. He and the Titans, who posted a 9-7 record in 2016, enter the 2017 with high expectations, with some observers picking the Titans to win the AFC South. If Mariota can remain healthy, he has plenty of weapons on offense and the Titans added talent on defense.

The Jets fortunes plummeted with a 5-11 record in 2016 and they revamped their roster during the offseason. They rid themselves of veterans such as wide receivers Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker – who now plays for the Titans –  offensive lineman Nick Mangold and cornerback Darrelle Revis. The moves left many people to say the Jets are tanking the 2017 season with the hopes of earning the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL draft to select a quarterback.

Here’s everything you need to know about the game:

What: Tennessee Titans vs. New York Jets

RENTON, Wash. –  running back Eddie Lacy said his ankle is fine and his body – aka weight – is where it needs to be as the Seahawks prepare for their first preseason game.

Fellow running back Thomas Rawls is trying to regain his form from the 2015 season and prove he can remain healthy for en entire season.

Lacy and Rawls figure to be the primary competitors to start at running back for the Seahawks. Both have looked solid during training camp, but coach Pete Carroll will start to receive answers to who will win the battle when the Seahawks play at the Los Angeles Chargers Sunday in their first preseason game.

Buccaneers vs Bengals

The Cincinnati Bengals will make their 2017 debut on Friday night at Paul Brown Stadium. Okay it is the preseason, but it is our first chance to see this year’s version of the Bengals on a football field for live action.

Since it is the first preseason game, don’t expect to see too much, or much of the starters. Andy Dalton, Geno Atkins, Carlos Dunlap and A.J. Green will probably play for a series or two, but the large majority of the game will feature backup and bubble players looking to earn their spot on the 53-man roster.

We should see plenty of new faces like linebacker Carl Lawson and defensive end Jordan Willis, the Bengals’ new rookie pass rushers. Also if the Bengals’ first depth chart holds true, we should see plenty of Joe Mixon since he is fourth on the current pecking order.

What we will certainly see a lot of is the players who are on the bubble competing for their right to a spot on the 53-man roster. It is a good chance for players who have struggled during camp to prove themselves during an actual game and for players who have shined to prove the hyper surrounding them is real.

Here are five players we’ll be paying significant attention to as the preseason kicks off.

1) Jeff Driskel

Since Dalton will likely only play a series or two at most, we should see plenty of AJ McCarron and Driskel on Friday night. Driskel isn’t really competing for McCarron’s spot as the backup, but what he is competing for is a spot on this roster.

It isn’t a secret the Bengals are overloaded at several positions like wide receiver and defensive tackle. Since the Bengals may try to keep more players than normal at those positions, they will have to make more cuts at other positions. The first one they would probably look at is the third quarterback. Many teams around the NFL only carry two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster so they can keep an extra player at another position. The Bengals have rarely kept three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster during the last five years, but Driskel stuck as the No. 3 guy for all of 2016.

This year, Driskel needs to prove he is more valuable than keeping, say, a seventh receiver. If he really impresses maybe it’ll also make the Bengals reconsider trading McCarron away before the season begins.

2) Jake Elliott

The Bengals used their fifth round pick on Elliott to the surprise of many. He also gave us all quite the scare last week during the team’s scrimmage when he missed a field goal and extra point in front of 11,000 fans inside Paul Brown Stadium.

Elliott rebounded toward the end of the day by making his final three field goals and he also seemed very eager to get back out there and move past it. Nothing will help him get past it faster than hitting an actual in-game field goal. It will also help prove he deserves the spot over Randy Bullock who had a very good training camp with just one miss recorded.

Redskins vs Ravens live stream: Watch NFL Preseason online

There have no doubt been great days in the histories of both the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens. However, they face a bit of uncertainty entering 2017. To try and answer questions, they’ll have a big task in the 2017 NFL preseason. Their preseason begins on Thursday as the Redskins travel to M&T Bank Stadium to face the Ravens in Week 1.

Change was common on the Redskins roster this offseason. They lost their starting receivers from last year, DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon. However, they hope that Terrelle Pryor can come in and pick up the slack. They also have hopes for Josh Doctson, who missed much of his rookie season due to injury.

Washington also ramped up their defensive talent. Adding guys like Zach Brown, Jonathan Allen and many others should prove to be huge for this unit. If they can step up, this team will be far more complete and dangerous in the NFC East.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of questions about the Ravens. Their defense is going to be stout, one of the best in the league. However, Baltimore’s offense is littered with question. Kenneth Dixon’s suspension and injury have ended his season. Meanwhile, they have questionable wide receiver talent. As such, there’s concern about what overall this team can do.

Thursday’s NFL preseason matchup will be broadcast on local networks. However, you can stream the action online through NFL Game Pass, though that does require a paid subscription.

Details for Thursday’s matchup are below:

We should learn quite a bit from this matchup on Thursday night. The Redskins and Ravens have plenty of intrigue, but it’ll be interesting to see who emerges in the preseason.

The Carolina Panthers will kick off the primary full week of the NFL preseason on Wednesday night without quarterback Cam Newton. The Panthers host the Houston Texans at 6:30 p.m. CDT Wednesday, and Carolina teach Ron Rivera said on Tuesday that Newton might now not play.

After five practices, Newton skilled fatigue and soreness in his proper shoulder. He hasn’t thrown in live drills on account that July 30, even though he has resumed passing to running shoes on the side and, on Tuesday, threw gently to strolling returned Chris Samuel.

“Cam’s been throwing,” Rivera stated on Monday. “That is the 1/3 day he is thrown the ball. i am no longer always involved. What i am being instructed is the doctor’s pleased with in which he’s.”

While the Panthers will play 4 preseason video games, the goal for Carolina is to have the 2015 NFL MVP prepared to play when the regular season kicks off on Sept. 10 against the San Francisco 49ers.

2. Discover in which players you cherished in university are actually.

We live in a fragmented international. a few human beings decide on college while others are NFL junkies handiest. I’m amazed every now and then how little crossover there is between the 2.

As a ways as I’m involved, football is football, but if you are a university fan with time to kill, finding out where remaining yr’s stars are now could be constantly a laugh.

After which there are the ones 2012 All-individuals nevertheless seeking to hold on…

Discover who your subsequent favorite player could be.

All and sundry loves an underdog, proper?

The NFL preseason is ripe with them. I imply there are actually too many to expect each team.

From the countrywide award winners seeking to regulate to the small university all-stars trying to prove they belong, there’s drama across the board irrespective of who is playing.
When the Arizona Cardinals take on the Oakland Raiders on Saturday it will be first-12 months quarterbacks coach Byron Leftwich who will be calling the plays in line with a tweet by means of Darren city from the group’s legit website.

Head train Bruce Arians sees a massive future for Leftwich, who played ten seasons inside the NFL.

“He’s going to be a head train early and rapid,” Arians stated when the crew made him a complete-time educates returned in January.

The Marshal product spent four seasons as a backup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, along with three in which Arians become the offensive coordinator. Leftwich, the seventh normal pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, may be operating with Carson Palmer, who became the first select that equal 12 months.

Tomlin broadcasts No big Ben or Antonio

The Pittsburgh Steelers, who’re already without walking again Le’Veon Bell and huge out Martavis Bryant, who still hasn’t been cleared to practice, can also be without their largest stars in their preseason opener in opposition to the New York Giants.

On Wednesday, head educate Mike Tomlin introduced that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and huge out Antonio Brown will each be held out of Friday’s contest. Consistent with the pinnacle guy they may be the only two healthy scratches.

Projected backup Landry Jones has been managing an abdominal harm so that means a heavy dose of fourth-spherical pick Josh Dobbs with undrafted rookie Bart Houston picking up the remainder of the snaps below middle. This is a great opportunity for Dobbs to make a run on the No. 2 role and for Houston to make humans notice, if now not in Pittsburgh then around the league.

Garrett to send ‘Message’

The Cleveland Browns open their preseason on Thursday night time against the brand new Orleans Saints and No. 1 typical pick protective quit Myles Garrett plans to send a message.

“They don’t have a good deal movie to move off of, at least now not of me now, and they don’t know what I must provide,” said Garrett (in line with Cleveland.com). “So, i’m searching forward to sending a message thru this primary sport.”

Probably, Garrett intends to introduce himself to the opposing quarterback as he plans to dominate.

“It would not depend if it is preseason or a scrimmage,” said Garrett. “I am trying to have a dominant performance, whether it’s preseason first collection or on every occasion i am getting available.”

Consistent with reviews, Garrett has regarded right and flashed the capability to get into the offensive backfield with his penetration competencies in each exercise, as well as the team’s scrimmage. What he hasn’t been capable of do is hit the quarterback something he is asking ahead to.

“(i am getting to) comply with through,” stated Garrett. “it’s type of a relief. It’s truely more difficult to keep away from hitting him than it’s far to absolutely wrap him up and take him down. Now that i will comply with via, i’m able to definitely show that i’m getting there and i’m making big performs.”

The Browns launched their unofficial intensity chart on Monday and Garrett was listed as a starter.

The Minnesota Vikings take on the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, Aug. 10 in the 2017 NFL Preseason. Here’s all the info you need to watch. On Thursday night, the Buffalo Bills will kick off their season at home against the Minnesota Vikings. Buffalo looks to unveil a new attitude as the end of the Rex Ryan era is upon us with rookie head coach Sean McDermott taking the reins following a very successful career as a defensive coordinator.

McDermott is going to have some work to do as the team lost one of their best defenders in cornerback Stephon Gilmore, as well as some great receiving weapons in Robert Woods and Marqise Goodwin. They did add rookie wide out Zay Jones and free agent Andre Holmes — both of who should get some snaps early in the game with starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor.

As for the Vikings, they kick off a new era as for the first time since 2007, they enter a season without running back Adrian Peterson on their roster. They released him after an injury plagued 2016, and he subsequently signed with the New Orleans Saints.

All eyes will be on second-round pick Dalvin Cook, who takes over at running back for Peterson. Cook was incredible at Florida State, but had some off field issues which gave some teams pause when they considered him leading into the draft. Atlanta Falcons Team News

Atlanta Falcons are to face an NFL team in over six months now. The Miami Dolphins will be the team that helps analyze the potential of each athlete who will be playing. Coach Dan Quinn has a lot of excitement about these matches. It gives him and others the chance to perform evaluations of his players against live competition.

As Atlanta Falcons are starting their preseason against a stiff competitor, fans are ready to be excited about a strong face-off. The Falcons lost in the Super Bowl 51. And this will also be a chance for them to show that they can fight back. Not to mention, get their position back as a strong NFL team. However, the lineup is different now. Now, many key players won’t be playing. Kelvin Taylor (running back), Margin Ifedi (defensive end), Kevin Graf (backup tackle), Julio Jones (receiver), and Taylor Gabriel (receiver) won’t be active.

Miami Dolphins Team News

Miami looks forward to controlling the damage from its loss of quarterback player Ryan Tannehill (knee injury that might get him out of the whole season). They have a replacement in Jay Cutler. Cutler was signed up with a one-year contract amounting to $10 million. However, professionals don’t think that he will be able to fill in the gap that is left behind. The rest is up for grabs. Only after seeing the kind of performance the team delivers can any estimate be made.

Against a team made mostly of rookies, the chances of the Miami Dolphins are good. However, if the practice performance of the Falcons translates into actual gameplay, things can quickly become hard for the Dolphins.
